Public Tour of the Historic Costume Collection

Image 01June 2011

In conjunction with the Meadowlark Music Festival, galleries and museum collections were opened to show the public the beautiful gems we are storing for future generations. The Historic Costume Collection, housed in the Home Economics building at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, is not usually open to the public due to its small size and for conservation purposes. For the Meadowlark Music Festival, I took small groups of 8-10 into the collection every 15 minutes and explained the collections mission and goals as well as how we were preserving the collection. There wasn't a great deal of time, but I enjoyed showing the guests some of the highlights of our collection. This public tour was a big stepping stone for me, it was the beginning of feeling like an accomplished and bright museum professional.
